Elite Insights with Casey Ashley #7: Home Cookin' & Big Things on the Horizon
Thu, Jun 3rd, 2010 12:00:00 am:

Casey fills us in on what it’s like to perform well in front of a hometown crowd, his future as an aspiring country musician, and this week’s Triton owners tournament at Kentucky Lake.

Z-MAN: How good did it feel to finish in the top 10 on your home lake - Clarks Hill?

CASEY: Oh man, it feels really good. It’s a place I’ve spent a whole bunch of time. It’s pretty much where I cut my teeth in tournament fishing, and I actually caught my first bass at Clarks Hill. So I’ve got a lot of history there, and I’ve put in a lot of time there. You just have such high expectations to do well. Especially after the first day when I came in and only had 8 pounds, I was pretty disgusted, but it all worked out. I’ve never seen that lake fish that tough. Read More

4th: Ashley still Confident

Ashley spent most of the day within sight of Williamson. His confidence for day 4 is buoyed because he thinks Williamson's primary area is about out of big fish, whereas his own has the capability of kicking out a huge stringer.

"If they cooperate, I can catch 20 pounds, no problem," he said. "I'm not wishing (Williamson) bad luck or anything, but he won't catch them tomorrow.

"I saw every one he caught today except that big one. I don't know where he got that one." Complete Story

What better way to do so than with the merging of country music and professional fishing fans? Casey Ashley is the epitome of the 'hometown country boy.' I look forward to watching him grow into as talented of a singer as he is a fisherman.” says Donna Lee of Buddy Lee Attractions , Inc.

Ashley’s Still In Tune
Photos by Mark Jeffreys Matt Pangrac
Donalds, SC – Almost three full years into his Elite Series career, on the verge of qualifying for his third consecutive Bassmaster Classic, Casey Ashley is just getting comfortable in his position in the upper echelon of tour-level pros.

Asked whether the older and more experienced pros take him lightly, all he’ll say is the following: “I don’t think I’m looked at as a pushover.”

Then, perhaps thinking that the statement made him sound overconfident, he told the interviewer that he doesn’t “want to sound cocky. Complete Story
